This was the headline this week of a story in the Deseret News in Utah about Brigham Young University President Kevin Worthen and his wife, Peggy: “Don’t quit because of fear or algebra, Worthens tell BYU students.” The algebra part wasn’t a joke: Peggy Worthen earned a bachelor’s degree at the school when she was in her 40s and nearly didn’t get it because she initially flunked her algebra final. She eventually passed, but the subject has been a dream-killer for a lot of people who have sought two- and four-year degrees but haven’t been able to get through the required algebra class. It's a fortunate thing that Bill O'Reilly's latest book, "Killing Patton," was written by him and not someone else. If not, O'Reilly would have taken the poor person apart, criticizing the book for its chaotic structure, its considerable padding and its repellent admiration of a war-loving martinet who fought the Nazis and really never understood why. George S. Patton stood almost shoulder to shoulder with them in his anti-Semitism — not that O'Reilly seems to have noticed or, for that matter, mentioned it in his book. Read More...

PARIS (AP) — The governments of Poland, France and Germany vowed Monday to make Europe a security and defense power with a greater ability to back Ukraine, as fears grow that former U.S. President Donald Trump might return to the White House and allow Russia to expand its aggression on the continent. The foreign ministers of the three countries met in the Paris suburb of La Celle-Saint-Cloud to have talks about Ukraine, amid other issues. Read More...
